If you've been meaning to give blood, the timing is good. unveiled a new bloodmobile named Bloodhound Wednesday in downtown Greenville, paid for with a grant from the . The community picked the name in a vote through 6AM City. The Blood Connection says it fits because, like a bloodhound, the team has a knack for tracking down donors.

Elliott Kelley, the group's director of marketing and public relations, said bloodmobiles are on the road every day of the year, and that wears them down. Donations usually drop during the holidays, and he said travel can mean more crashes and more patients who need blood. Type O donors, especially O negative, are always in high demand.

  • Reclining beds and more room for staff and donors
  • Iron check through the thumb, with no finger prick
  • Snack and drink area to recover before you leave

Driving to a drive? FOX Carolina reports experts recommend checking your tire pressure, battery and lights as the weather cools. They also suggest packing jumper cables, a flashlight with extra batteries, a warm blanket and a first-aid kit.
